Welcome
As an active community volunteer and representative on City Council,
it is a pleasure representing the citizens of Wards 7 and 8. There’s
a lot of exciting news in our community, which I would like to share
with you.
The new Wonder Carpet, a state-of-the-art lift for skiers, snowboarders
and snow bladers, was installed this winter at the Chinguacousy
Ski Hill. The pathways at Chinguacousy Park have been resurfaced
this year.
I am happy to report, Earnscliffe Recreation Centre will be getting
a facelift this year and improvements include the addition of a new
arena and a new fitness area to be completed in Fall 2006. As the first
project in the implementation of the City’s Pathways Master Plan,
Professor’s
Lake Recreation Centre was selected as a demonstration site to install
a new sidewalk and scenic overlook of the lake.
The Wards 7 & 8 spring cleanup in various parks in the ward, followed
by a barbecue at Chinguacousy Park, was a new initiative this year and
I would like to thank all the groups and individuals who participated.
If you would like to assist in forming a clean-up campaign of your local
park, please contact my office .
As Chair of Economic Development, I am pleased to see the activity
at Bramalea City Centre.
Morguard Investments is making a $30 million investment in the 1.2 million
square-foot shopping centre, which is the largest indoor mall in Brampton.
The Fire/Life
Safety Education Centre is the first of its kind in Ontario and
is located in Chinguacousy Park. Tours are free, and are held on Tuesdays,
Wednesdays and Thursdays. For information or to book a tour, call 458-5404.
The City of Brampton continues to be a leader in emergency preparedness
and the Emergency
Measures Office is responsible for developing, implementing and
maintaining programs focused on the prevention, response and recovery
from major emergencies that could have a disastrous impact on our community.
City Council approved its 2004/2005 Municipal
Accessibility Plan last year. The plan, developed with input from
staff and the Accessibility Advisory Committee, outlines a wide range
of priorities and initiatives, which are intended to prevent new barriers
and increased accessibility for people of all ages and abilities. As
your Council Representative on this Committee, I would be pleased to
answer any questions you may have.
As your City Councillor, I work in partnership with Regional Councillor
Gael Miles to represent the
residents of Wards 7 and 8. I would like to thank everyone for their
continued support and look forward to working with you to improve our
community.
