Committees
As City Councillor, Sandra Hames represents you on the following committees:
- Community Services (Past Chair)
This area provides the essential service
of fire protection and emergency response to life and property, as
well as the lifestyle services of recreation programs, recreational
facilities and parks. With Brampton’s rapid growth expanding
neighbourhood safety services and providing greater access to parks
and recreational programs and facilities remains a top priority of
the department.
- Emergency Planning (Liaison)
The City of Brampton Emergency Measures Plan
defines how the City of Brampton responds to major emergencies, such
as tornadoes, floods, and major spills. It provides definitions and
presents the roles and responsibilities of officials from every level
of government and from partner agencies.
- Economic Development (Chair)
The Economic Development Committee deals
with matters related to the marketing and promotion of Brampton as
a premier location for business and industrial development.
- Small Business Enterprise Centre
Brampton's Small Business Enterprise Centre
is one of the best entrepreneur resource centres there is. Partly government
funded and privately funded the centre is there to help business grow
and learn everything needed to know about how to build a business.
- Association of Municipalities of Ontario
The mandate of AMO is to support and enhance
strong and effective municipal government in Ontario. It promotes the
value of the municipal level of government as a vital and essential
component of Ontario and Canada's political system. Sandra was elected
on the Association of Municipalities of Ontario to make sure that Brampton's
voice is heard when dealing with the Provincial Government.
- Flower City Parade (Vice Chair)
Brampton’s first Floral Parade was
held in the early 1960’s and took place every year for more than
10 years. Saturday, June 18, 2005 marked the return of the Flower City
Parade, which celebrates Brampton’s Flower City Heritage. The
parade included colourful floral floats and marching bands. It was
a fun filled event for young and old alike.
- Committee of Council
The Committee of Council deals with the following
matters: By-laws and Licensing, Community Services, Corporate Services
and Finance, Works and Transportation.
- Citizens Awards (Chair)
The City of Brampton is proud to offer a
recognition program for outstanding citizens in our community. The
Sports Achievement Award and the Arts Acclaim Award are designed to
identify Brampton residents whose achievements have been recognized
at the Provincial, National or International level. The Long Term Service
Award identifies dedicated volunteers whose efforts have made a significant
impact towards the development and advancement of recreational sports,
the arts and community social services
- Brampton Arts Council
The Brampton Arts Council is a registered
non-profit, charitable organization dedicated to the promotion and
development of the arts within the City of Brampton.
- Brampton Library Board
The Brampton Library Board is responsible
for making policies for the operation of the Library; for obtaining
adequate funding for Library materials, services and programmes; and
for promoting the Library in the community.
- City of Brampton United Way Campaign
Sandra is the Council liaison to the
City of Brampton's United Way Campaign Team
- Professors Lake Recreation Advisory Committee
The PLNRAC represents the residents of their
neighbourhood. They are the organizing committee for the annual Professors
Lake Beach Parties and Heat Wave Dances and are actively involved in
maintaining and improving the quality of the community.
- Korea Veterans Wall of Remembrance Committee
The Wall of Remembrance is an extremely impressive,
curved 200 foot-long polished granite wall. It contains 516 bronze
plaques, one for each of the volunteer Canadian soldiers who died in
Korea. This Memorial will ever cause us, and hopefully, future generations,
to remember the high price that is paid for peace.
- Board of Governors, Brampton Sports Hall of Fame
The purpose of the Brampton Sports Hall of
Fame is to honour the history of sport in the City of Brampton and
in particular those persons who have made outstanding contributions
and achievements in the development of sport.
- Accessibility Advisory Committee
The mandate of the City of Brampton's Accessibility
Advisory Committee (AAC) includes advising City Council regarding the
preparation, implementation and effectiveness of the annual Accessibility
Plan. Sandra chaired the Ontarians with Disabilities Act and made submissions
to the Province on behalf of Municipalities. Brampton is now a leader
with its first Accessibility Plan.
- Brampton Safe City Association Board of Directors
The Brampton Safe City Association works
with residents, business, community groups, the City of Brampton and
the Peel Regional Police to educate the public and support programs
that make Brampton one of Canada's safest cities.
